EPRO nominates finalists for "Best Recycled Plastics Product Award"

The European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations, (EPRO) Best Recycled Plastic Product Award 2017 winners will be chosen and announced at IdentiPlast in Vienna (22.-23.02.2017). This prestigious award recognises innovation and sustainability in products and designs made from recycled plastics within Europe. Short listed in 2017 in the Product category are entries from the Germany, Spain and UK while the Design category includes entries from Spain and Ireland.

Creating increased and sustained demand for recycled plastics in products is essential to improve resource efficiency and highlight the possibilities within the market place. Aspirational circular economy systems need strong and consistent demand from the consumer for more products made from recycled plastic materials and showcasing the products available across the UK and Europe helps to stimulate that demand.

Peter Sundt, EPRO, Secretary General, stated that “the EPRO award for best recycled plastic product is meant as an inspiration not only for the participants of this competition, but for everyone in society doing their little extra effort to bring us closer to a circular economy. We will then all be winners.“

The judges were impressed both the number of entries and how many of products showed long term sustainability and innovation.   All the delegates at IdentiPlast 2017 will have an opportunity to view the short-listed products and vote on the winning entry on the first day of the Conference, on Wednesday, 22nd February 2017 with the award being presented at the Conference dinner.

The short-listed entries in the Product category are;

  • Counterplas Ltd. (www.counterplas.co.uk), UK with the Loft stilt
  • INCOPLAS sa/nv, (www.incoplas.com), Belgian, with the EUR range of bottles made from HDPE circular compound
  • Papier-Mettler KG, (www.papier-mettler.com), Germany with reusable bags for life made from back of store waste

  • SP-Berner Plastic Group, S.L.U. (www.sp-berner.com), Spain, the Miami Set self-assembly outdoor furniture

This award shows businesses and public sector organisations just some of the products that are now available to purchase across Europe with green credentials. This clearly indicates how the industry is putting into action closed loop projects which consequently tick green procurement boxes and the environmental benefits that this brings.

The 2015 EPRO Best Recycled Plastic Product winner was the HAG Capisco modular chair.
