ERDE Switzerland Increases Collection Volume to Over 2,660 Tonnes – Network Continues to Expand

Aarau, March 2026ERDE Switzerland continues its growth trajectory: in 2025, more than 2,660 tonnes of agricultural plastics were collected, with silage and stretch films successfully recycled. This represents an increase of around 6.5% compared to the previous year and highlights the ongoing commitment of all stakeholders to sustainable agriculture and the protection of valuable resources.

Taking responsibility together – for a stronger circular economy

Each year, large volumes of plastic products such as silage stretch films, silage sheets, underlay films and baler twines are used in Swiss agriculture. To prevent these materials from ending up as waste, the voluntary take-back system ERDE Switzerland was established. Manufacturers, farmers and collection point operators work hand in hand to collect used agricultural plastics, recycle them and return them to the material cycle. This conserves raw materials and reduces CO₂ emissions – making a tangible contribution to environmental and resource protection.

Growing network and shorter transport distances

In its fourth collection year, ERDE Switzerland not only increased collection volumes once again but also further expanded its network: a total of 127 collection points are now available – a clear sign of growing commitment across all regions.

Particularly encouraging is that farms can establish their own collection points, either permanently or through individual collection days. This benefits both the operators and neighbouring farms by reducing transport distances and providing financial support through ERDE Switzerland.

“Today, ERDE Switzerland counts 127 collection points – an encouraging figure that demonstrates how the network is expanding and how all stakeholders are taking responsibility to keep raw materials in circulation. Together with our system operator, RIGK GmbH, we continue to identify new collection points to cover areas where gaps still exist. Compared to the previous year, support for collection points has been further strengthened – a necessary response to the challenges of the recycling market,” explains Riccardo Casanova, Managing Director of ERDE Switzerland.

Certified recycling ensures transparency and trust

All collected silage and stretch films are recycled in Switzerland as well as in other certified EU facilities. Independent auditors verify both the collection and recycling processes and document proper recovery. This ensures that all stakeholders can rely on the highest standards and that the material cycle is effectively closed.

Significant potential for future growth

Despite the positive development, there is still considerable potential: currently, only around one quarter of used silage films in Switzerland are recycled. ERDE Switzerland and RIGK remain committed to encouraging more farms to participate in collection and return systems, thereby further strengthening environmental and resource protection.

Get involved and close the loop

By participating, farms actively contribute to environmental protection and the conservation of valuable raw materials. Interested businesses can get in touch at any time to establish their own collection point or to find out more about return options.
