PRE collections are moving to the next level in 2024 – Sustainability and Environmental Protection in the Agricultural Sector

After a successful anniversary year in 2023, the PRE® "Crop Protection Products Take-Back and Disposal" (Pflanzenschutzmittel-Rücknahme und Entsorgung) collection program is entering a new phase. Starting this week, unusable plant protection products and other agricultural chemicals that can no longer be used will once again be collected at eight locations across the country. The current collection phase begins on 6 November 2024, providing both commercial and end users with a safe and environmentally sound removal option for obsolete products, preventing them from entering the environment. Further details on collection sites and dates are available on the PRE® website.

With these collections, the PRE® SYSTEM a joint initiative by the German Agricultural Industry Association (IVA) in partnership with RIGK continues its mission to make agriculture more sustainable and to promote responsible environmental practices. The year 2023 was especially significant for PRE®, as the initiative celebrated its tenth anniversary, having safely taken back of over 500 tons of unusable chemicals through more than 2,500 participating contributors since its founding in 2013. The ongoing commitment and steady development of the PRE® SYSTEM play a crucial role in conserving natural resources.

With the start of the 2024 collection phase, there has also been a change within the PRE® SYSTEM team: Anne Kreins, who served as system manager for both the RIGK-G and PRE® SYSTEMs since 1999, recently retired. Her meticulous and forward-thinking work not only ensured the effective operation of the take-back systems but also set high standards for sustainability and environmental protection. Thanks to her dedication, practical, eco-friendly solutions were developed that will continue to underpin the system’s success. Lara Dambeck, who worked closely with Anne Kreins, now assumes responsibility for the PRE® SYSTEM and will continue overseeing the RIGK-G SYSTEM.

The 2024 PRE® collection campaign will once again accept unusable crop protection products and agricultural chemicals, including cleaning agents, used oil, seed treatments, fertilizers, and paints. The return fee is €3.15 per kilogram, plus VAT. For those with larger quantities to remove to, RIGK also offers tailored removal solutions.

An additional highlight of the year is upcoming in November: the 4th International Recycling Forum, organized by PRE® system operator RIGK. This event will bring together experts and stakeholders from the plastics recycling industry, with one session dedicated to agricultural plastics recycling - a topic of growing importance for sustainable agriculture. Registration is now open here.

PRE® is an initiative of the German Agricultural Industry Association (IVA), based in Frankfurt am Main, which represents the interests of the agrochemical industry in Germany. PRE® is a trademark of the IVA.
