The European Association of Plastics Recycling (EPRO) as one of the first signatories, sends out a clear signal for a sustainable circular economy.
More than 100 leading companies and associations in the plastics industry have signed a commitment in Brussels to promote the circular economy in Europe. Launched by the EU Commission, the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA) plans to ensure the reuse of ten million tonnes of recycled plastics in new products by 2025. In order to achieve this goal, the Alliance brings together representatives from the entire value chain – from Waste Management and Recycling companies to Raw Material producers and processors, brand owners and retailers. The initial signatories include the European Association of Plastics Recycling (EPRO).
“With over 20 years of experience in organizing and implementing EPR systems for plastic packaging and agricultural film, accounting for nearly 70 percent of all plastic waste in Europe, we can play a key role in the Circular Plastics Alliance," said Francis Huysman, EPRO chairman. “We see the Alliance as a great initiative for taking plastics recycling to the next level. Business needs to concentrate its entire effort on using more recycled materials, investing more in high-tech sorting systems and recycling plants. This is the only way to close the crucial gaps in an efficient circular economy.”
