Circular Economy at the industry highlight Fakuma 2021

The premiere of plastship and RIGK as exhibitors at FAKUMA to present their services to the international plastics industry was a complete success, and "after a long time without personal contacts, it was an experience to be able to hold personal discussions with a professional audience again". (Ingo Köhler, Recycling Manager RIGK GmbH). The general focus of the trade fair was on sustainability, circular economy and recycling, the core themes of the two companies from the Rhine-Main region.

A total of 1,470 exhibitors from 39 countries presented their innovative solutions in the fields of injection moulding, extrusion technology or thermoforming as well as the world of plastics and also recyclate production to approx. 29,500 trade visitors on an exhibition area of 85,000 square metres. This made it possible to set new standards for the topics of sustainability, climate protection and recycling, and to "look forward to the future together" (Bettina Schall, trade fair promoter and managing director of P. E. Sc hall GmbH & Co. KG). According to Martin Bastian (Institute Director of the SKZ in Würzburg), the trade fair also made it possible to convey that more responsibility must be taken for what happens to plastic: "We must ensure that plastic is not only accepted, but used with enthusiasm. And we have to educate people much more about the benefits," explains Bastian.

This can also be confirmed by Ingo Köhler who, together with colleagues at the joint stand of RIGK and plastship GmbH, met an interested customer audience on the subject of the use of recycled materials. From the trade fair discussions and his experience, it was clear that "the material flow for recycling processes is one of the relevant challenges for the future and thus for sustainability".
